Transition programme
Our transition programme for 2018 was sponsored by Irwin Mitchell. We thank them for their support.
We are now preparing for pupils who will make the move in 2019. If you have a child or pupil who requires this service please get in touch by emailing the office: [email protected]
The move from KS2 to KS3 is a crucial point in the childhood of any young person, but it can be additionally difficult for those who have sustained an ABI.
But......
There are key ways of helping and of preparing the staff in the receiving school. The SHIPS Transitional Programme is designed to help parents, staff in KS2 and staff at KS3 to make the transitional process the easiest and most beneficial it can be for the young person involved.
Initially we will need to contact key people in the receiving school. This cannot be done until places for KS3 are confirmed which is usually at the start of March. At that point we will start to open places on our Transition Programme, but please register your interest in advance if you are a parent of a pupil in Y6 who will be moving onto secondary education this year.
The programme has benefits for all participants:
For parents - Moving to Big School - afternoon sessionClick here for more information
For KS2 TAs - Preparation for Transition -a morning course to introduce activities to be done with the young person to prepare for transition. This will take place in April or May in good time to use the resources and ideas.
For Young People - monitoring and visits to schools
For receiving schools - a free place on our annual study day on 12 July 2018. Click here for more information
We will also attend or organise a transition meeting between the primary and secondary schools to share vital information about how the pupil learns.
Irwin Mitchell kindly supported for this new programme in 2017, and we hope that we will be able to offer this package free of charge in 2018 as well. This is a joint venture between The SHIPS Project and CBIT South West.
