SHIPS is dedicated to helping young people who have sustained an ABI. Based in Bristol, we serve the South West of England and South Wales, and in the 10 years we’ve been operating, we’ve been able to help 150 young people who have sustained an ABI or have a neurological difficulty, including epilepsy. By educating both the children with an ABI, and the adults around them that these children rely on, we can provide these children a greater chance to achieve their full potential.
Every young person has individual needs, which is why at SHIPS we work closely with them to determine how we can best help them; some children need our help so that they can access qualifications in mainstream schools, others need to develop life-skills during school and go on to live a fulfilled life. Some, however, may need help managing to achieve their own independence; no matter what a child needs, we’ll never give up on a child who needs our help. We offer a range of training days, lifeboats and parent support groups to help children and the adults around them, and we’re continuously working to spread awareness and understanding of ABI and how everyone can help children with an Acquired Brain Injury.
