Sian has more than 30 years teaching and managing experience in many different kinds of educational setting. She has worked with a wide variety of Special Educational Needs and is currently working with children with acquired brain injuries as part of the Hospital Education Service in Bristol, reintegrating pupils into existing or new schools as it has become appropriate in their recovery. She has been awarded a PhD from University of Bath for her research into the learning of children and young people after brain injury.
Helen Cullimore, Specialist Speech & Language Therapist
Helen is a highly specialist speech & language therapist working at Bristol Children’s Hospital, primarily with children who have an acquired brain injury. This work includes swallowing and communication assessment and intervention as part of a multidisciplinary team from the acute stages to longer term neuro rehabilitation. Helen qualified from Newcastle University in 1996 and worked in Community Paediatrics and Special schools in Gloucester and then Bristol before moving to Frenchay Hospital in 1999 to take up a post in adult and paediatric neurology and neurosurgery. The Paediatric Speech & Language Therapy service grew at Frenchay. Helen moved with the Barbara Russell Children’s Unit, Frenchay Hospital to Bristol Children’s Hospital in May 20014 as part of the Centralisation of Specialist Paediatrics for the South West. Helen is privileged to have seen some remarkable young people and their families defy all expectations and is passionate about working with this client group.
