SHIPS was able to be initiated through the Cbit Action for Change programme.

The Child Brain Injury Trust (Cbit) aims to improve the quality of life for all children with an acquired brain injury and to enable them to achieve their full potential

The Kids Head Injury Study is a 5 year programme of research into the neurological, cognitive, behavioural and educational outcomes following childrens' head injury. The study, based in Frenchay Hospital Bristol is directed by Dr Peta Sharples, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist and is funded by the Department of Health.

KHIS is a partner of SHIPS, referring patients and pupils to the project.
